Legacy League Chairman

The recently-formed Legacy League could not be in better or more nurturing hands!
Mary Young is the affable, energetic and unstoppable chairman of Phi Mu Foundation’s newest giving society. This dedicated Phi Mu is a pro at multi-tasking as well. In addition to her leadership role with Legacy League, Mary is currently serving as Area III Collegiate Membership Coordinator, President of the Tuscaloosa, AL alumnae chapter, Chapter Development Adviser for the Alpha Zeta Chapter and Panhellenic Adviser for the Kappa Chi Chapter.
With all that Mary has on her plate, one might ask why she decided to take on the Legacy League as well. “I believe it is very important to support Phi Mu Foundation because of the wonderful programs they sponsor and the many ways in which they help Phi Mu collegians and alumnae,” said Mary. “I care a lot about the funding for our Chapter Consultants, the many academic scholarships, and the educational and leadership materials for collegians and alumnae alike.”
Founded in 2006, membership in the Legacy League is open to any Phi Mu who commits to contributing at least $1,000 in unrestricted funds annually. The amount may be paid monthly (at only $83.34 per month), quarterly, in one lump sum or in any other variation that may work best for the member.
“By being a member of Legacy League, I am sharing the blessing of giving back to Phi Mu a portion of what I have to help others better their lives. Phi Mu has done so much for me over the years and I am happy to give back. It is my way of showing how proud and privileged I am to be a Phi Mu,” concluded Mary.

Joan Wallem, ΔΒ
1852 Society Chairman
Joan Wallem, 1852 Society Chairman
Joan Wallem knows a thing or two about volunteering for Phi Mu. This seasoned Phi Mu expert has served in positions ranging from Area Officer, National Officer, National Council Member-at-Large, Foundation Board President, and now, Foundation’s esteemed 1852 Society Chairman.
The 1852 Society, Phi Mu Foundation’s annual giving society, was announced at the 1996 National Convention by an 18th century town crier who was ushered into the meeting by a costumed fife and drum corps. Since its inception, the 1852 Society has grown from its original 15 founding members to an impressive 79 members.
“Phi Mu has been such an important part of my life since college, that I cannot imagine not being involved,” said Joan. “It gives me great satisfaction to give back to Phi Mu because it has contributed to helping me be happy, successful and fulfilled, making my life all the more meaningful.”
It is the mission of the 1852 Society to provide leadership support of the Phi Mu Foundation’s significant annual endeavors, programs and special projects. Membership is open to any Phi Mu who pledges to contribute at least $1,852 annually – which may be paid monthly at only $154.34 – in unrestricted funds. All 1852 Society gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
According to Joan, “One of the most important benefits of belonging to the 1852 Society is pride in the opportunity to be involved with a very loyal group of dedicated women who annually give generous support to Phi Mu Foundation.”
