My Internship with Phi Mu Foundation
by Ellen Fryman, ΔΒ

As the summer months quickly approached, I realized how important it would be for me to continue my work with Phi Mu while on interim from traveling as a chapter consultant for the Fraternity. When I learned about the Phi Mu Foundation internship, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get involved with a side of Phi Mu that always intrigued me, but I knew little about.

Originally from Illinois, the chance to live in Georgia and work at the Headquarters for 10 weeks seemed like an adventure. Working with Phi Mu Foundation was certainly an adventure as well as a blessing. The experiences I gained during my time with Foundation are invaluable for my future career and personal growth.

To take an idea, create something new, watch the project take flight and come to fruition have been among the many opportunities given to me by Phi Mu Foundation. I was not only able to help with daily tasks that assist in the smooth-running of the Foundation’s operations; I was also able to work on several projects of my own. My previous knowledge of Fraternity operations was a great asset in my time as the Foundation intern, helping to put Phi Mu Foundation’s money to great use with several projects for collegiate members.

I created a new Philanthropy video that our collegians can use during recruitment and chapter development. I also created a new chapter development program to include some of the wonderful marketing tools already developed by Phi Mu Foundation. The program will help our collegians gain a better understanding of Phi Mu Foundation and the women who support it.

Another responsibility entrusted to me was the updating of our Philanthropy materials. The National Philanthropy Day Packet and Hoop-a-Paluza Kit help our collegians live one of the greatest parts of our creed. They are designed to help chapters make the most of their philanthropic activities and give the very best back to our national philanthropy – Children’s Miracle Network.

The relationships and friendship I formed along the way are dear to me and it is with deepest appreciation that I thank the Board of Trustees, Susan Logan, Kathy Curtin, Nancy Walls, Melinda Weaver, Courtney Flores, and all of you for allowing me to serve as your summer intern.

The patient instruction, encouragement and opportunities I received over the 10-week internship illustrated one of the many of the reasons I am proud to be a Phi Mu. I appreciate the chance to work for and experience a different side of Phi Mu. I am truly thankful for my Fraternity and the faithful women who serve her.
